In “Starlings” and “Silence” Kuprin’s love for the beauty of nature and all living in it is reflected with keen sympathy and understanding. “The Insult” demonstrates the author’s peculiar approach to the “profession” of common thieves who appear to possess dignity and pride when being accused of something not worthy of their “business”. He watched this great “river of life” trying to get into its depth, loving the beauty of nature and glorifying the ideal of man, close to nature, for which he obtained great readers’ gratitude and love.
